STRENGTHS:

WEAKNESSES: History, talking coherently around cute boys, transfiguration, social graces, either putting people on a pedestal, or in the villain's corner, daydreaming, procrastinating, overanalyzing how others interact with her and being Ms. Mountain-out-of-Molehills, raisins, wilfully putting herself on every Future Death Eater's hit-list with her pseudo-radical views on the state of Muggle-Wizard relations


DETAILED PERSONALITY:
Mary is perky, chipper, and unapologetically opinionated: she's vocally pro-muggle, unabashedly anti-slytherin, and thinks the Dark Arts are never to be tolerated and that only the sick-minded practice them. She loves quidditch, but loves football even more. Mary's spent her past years at Hogwarts determinedly set on amassing enough players for pick-up games. She's managed to grab a few teams consisting of muggle-borns, half-bloods, and any other witch or wizard willing to be lured in.

She's inheritated numerous issues with the Satute of Secrecy from her mother, and from her own observation thinks that wizards being so ignorant of the muggle world works toward everyone's detriment. Personally, she believes Muggle Studies should be a requirement instead of a 'soft option' (though she thinks it should be renamed, because 'Muggle Studies' makes muggles seem like some exotic animal). She takes issue with the condescension inherent among wizards (even among muggle-borns!) toward muggles, and doesn't believe the wizarding world does much to consider the unique stresses that muggle-borns are put through. Stresses such as suddenly being plucked from their own world and having to lie to friends and family about most aspects of their life for the rest of their lifetime.

Among hanging out with friends, Mary is working to bring attention to these issues as well as promote a better understanding and respect of muggles among her fellow students (and after graduation: among the Greater Wizarding World). She's looking to start a "Best of Both Worlds" organisation this year that focuses on wizarding/muggle relations.

Mary's mother is a witch, but actually wasn't greatly enamoured when she received the Hogwarts letter in her youth telling her that "GUESS WHAT! You're a witch now and you're going to go away to our boarding school for SEVEN YEARS and leave your family and friends and the world you knew behind. AND you're also supposed to follow our Wizarding Laws, etc. etc." Her mother appreciated Hogwarts teaching her how to control her magic, and the friends she made there, but she didn't wish to immerse herself in the Wizarding World after graduation. After Hogwarts, Janet continued her education through Muggle school and took a muggle job and generally lived as a 'Muggle with Extras'.

SCHOOL
Good friends with Lily Potter, usually hangs out with other Gryffindors and students willing to play football; she has a good group of friends among Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, and Ravenclaws.

UNREQUITED CRUSH: Mary hasn't managed to escape the teenage anguish of a serious crush. It hit her around third year, and she hasn't been able to shake it. As much as she's a strong-willed, passionate, and idealistic teen girl, it seems Young Love renders her just as big a fool as everyone else: she spends more time than she's comfortable with daydreaming about tandem broom-rides and idolising him a bit more than he deserves, keeps laughing pre-maturely at even the stupid jokes, can spend days over-analysing how he said hi to her in the hallway, and finds that there is far too much sighing in her day than she's okay with. Sure, the butterflies in her chest get her high when she's around him or talking to him, but overall Mary finds that young love just sucks.
