personality
OVERVIEW:Severus is a bitter, spiteful, and bullied 15-year-old Slytherin who is a bonafide prodigy, though it does him little good. Not officially known but certainly suspect, he has a natural talent for the Dark Arts. He feels they are beautiful, powerful, and elegant form of magic that have been severely misunderstood and mistreated by a world of people far too stupid to properly understand and respect them (maybe like a certain Slytherin perhaps?). But it's okay, because he's going to master them and make his father and all those other people who bullied him and looked down at him and who tried to make him feel inferior and worthless pay one day with his Dark Arts.
And the girl he loves? Lily will finally see what an awesome, powerful, and AMAZING Wizard he is. She will see that the Dark Arts aren't some ugly, horrible thing but really incredible and full of beauty and she'll finally look at him in that way and that fucking ass of a Potter will be dead in a ditch somewhere or maybe sent to Azkaban where Severus will laugh at James and finally get to rub his happiness and superiority back in that arrogant face BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT JAMES POTTER DESERVES.
Sirius Black? He’ll just die a fiery, painful death on his motorbike and Severus will call it good.
Until then he's just an awkward teen desperately trying not to lose his strained connection to his best friend and the Girl He Loves. Until then he's just Hogwart's resentful resident punching bag and a wannabe Death Eater. But he's nursing grudges and committing every slight against him to memory so that it can be repaid when the Dark Lord fully comes to power and Severus, with his intellect and Dark Arts mastery finally paying off, will be more important than ALL of them.
PRODIGY: His theoretical and practical skill far outstrip that required in the curriculum, and there are few students in the entire school who can match the scope and range his magical knowledge and his diverse expertise. Rather than broadcast this fact, Severus greedily hoards his knowledge. His teachers are aware of his excellent grades and his essays are always at least a full foot longer than those of even his most academic peers, but not even the Hogwarts professors are aware of the numerous charms, potions, hexes, and spells that Severus has invented. Records of his creations exist solely in the margins of textbooks and journals stashed away behind a "Property of the Half-Blood Prince".

relationships
LILY EVANS He loves her. It's an obsessive, desperate, and greedy love. He curbs his prejudices and Dark Arts passions for her to a certain extent, but Severus' opinions haven't changed for her. Lily Evans is the exception, not the catalyst to alter his world view. He still hates muggles, refers to other muggle-borns as mudbloods, and he still loves the Dark Arts and he doesn't think any of that is wrong. He doesn't care if all the muggles in the world were killed and the mudbloods were sent to Azkaban, he only cares that Lily Evans is alive and well and his.
TOBIAS SNAPE Severus hates his father. Really and truly. And Tobias Snape, who has never liked magic or anything much, has done a lot to earn that hatred. If his father were to die? Severus would only narrow his eyes and say "Good."
EILEENSNAPE PRINCE They say you have to be able to love and take care of yourself before you can truly love and take care of someone else. Well, Eileen never got the first half down to be able to succeed in the second half. She was a weak, fearful woman in their house, and despite her best attempts she did a piss-poor job of loving and protecting her son. Snape has a mixture of love and pity and disdain for his mother, blaming her for their situation because she abdicated her own magical heritage for a cruel, worthless muggle like Tobias Snape. He may not exactly care for her as much as well-loved and well-balanced teenage boys care about their mothers, but he does love her and is fiercely proud of her heritage. It's the only thing about this cowering woman that he can be proud of.
LUCIUS MALFOY According to Canon, Lucius was a prefect in Severus' first year and was welcoming to him when Severus was sorted. Severus has a genuine regard for and looks up to Lucius, one that (following the canon future) seems to have evolved into a mutual friendship despite his half-blood status even after Voldemort's first "demise". Severus likely extends that regard to Narcissa as well.
OTHER SLYTHERINS In Slytherin Severus met others who appreciated the Dark Arts, a thing that he is grateful for even if he thinks their appreciation is rather crude. But, even if some of them also make fun of him, he loves having a group where he can talk freely about the Dark Arts and he does want the approval of those older Slytherins likely to be Death Eaters. He wants to be a Death Eater, and glorifies that to an extent. He's eager to show off some of his incredible skill in the Dark Arts for them, but he'll also remember every slight and joke and insult for the future.

politics & opinions
DARK ARTS FEELINGS Snape has a genuine, deep-rooted love for the Dark Arts, one that will never go away regardless of what side he's on. Growing up lonely and bitter in turbulent, neglectful, and loveless household, Dark Magic was there for him in a way nnothing and nobody else was until Lily. He had a natural inclination for it in his childhood before he could even properly research or name it. He identifies with the Dark Arts on a very personal level: Severus doesn't see them as this monstrous, horrible thing but rather an area of magic misunderstood and mistreated by the idiots of Wizardkind. He sees a cruel yet powerful beauty in them, the still waters of which run deeper than most can ever know, requiring more finesse than fury to truly master. Snape invents hexes, not poetry. But even at fifteen there is a profound poetry in his attitude toward magic, borne from his deep-rooted desire to understand magic at all its levels. It's driven the excellence in his studies, resulting in his knowledge at times out-stripping that of his own teachers' (especially in Potions), and really setting him up to be one of the Greatest Wizards that the world will likely never realise. In Canon, Severus Snape grew into an embittered bully, but he managed to master something as 'Evil' as the Dark Arts and harness something so 'Good' as the power of Love to defeat Voldemort. (Yeah yeah, Harry destroyed some Horcruxes WHATEVER).
'FUCK THESE MUGGLES' Snape's disdain and hatred for muggles were initially shaped by his view on his own muggle father, who didn't like magic (or anything) much. It was further exacerbated by Petunia Evans, who teased and harassed him and tried to make him feel like a worthless freak. But, even more hateful in his eyes, she called tried to make Lily feel like a freak. He may be a half-blood, but his disdain and hatred for muggles runs personal and deeper than any purist pure-blood can hope to touch.
'HOGWARTS IS HOME' Like with Tom Riddle and a future!Harry, Hogwarts is the first place that truly felt like home to Snape. His own home life was shoddy and neglectful at best, and -- despite the bullying -- the years he's spent at school have been the best of his life.

extracurriculars
KNIGHTS OF WALPURGIS Of course Severus is eager to join a club that focuses on the Dark Arts. He may be a half-blood and a good number of the Knights may not like him much, but his skill with the Dark Arts is truly phenomenal. That, likely with some vouching on someone like Lucius' part, allowed him entry. Of course, with someone like Bellatrix in currently in charge joining hasn't been easy for him, and he's had to continually deal with 'hazing' of a sort, but Severus is determined that it'll all pay off after Graduation.
THE SLUG CLUB Severus is a member of the Slug Club. His excellence in his studies cannot be denied and were certainly noticed by Professor Slughorn, but despite this he's still a student that nobody really expects to get anywhere. Snape may be a prodigy and already a brilliant inventor of spells, charms, hexes, and Potions' shortcuts (not that anybody but his Textbooks know the extent of it), but it doesn't change that he's still this greasy-haired, hook-nosed and bullied kid with too much anger and piss-poor people skills and that isn't going to become the next Minister of Magic.
DEULLING CLUB Fuck no, Severus isn't stupid and knows better than to sign himself up for Duelling Club. Offensive and defensive spells are useful, but he thinks the club is really for those with less brain than brawns, anyway. That and Quidditch.

aka the details that I didn't feel like organizing:
• LEVICORPUS :: One of his spells, Levicorpus, escaped the confines of his secrecy and has no become 'En Vogue' among his fellow students -- including the likes of Potter. Of course, nobody suspects that he invented such a thing, and the idiots would probably just laugh if he claimed it.
• BERSKER :: Calling him a coward, referring to him as 'Snivellus', or suggesting that he's mediocre or ordinary are all sure-fire ways to earn his permanent ire. Teasing him in general will make him an enemy for life, but the three things above will earn his hatred.
